| Republic F-105 Thunderchief | |
|
Once considered too complex and difficult to maintain, and with too little performance for an interceptor, the F-105 earned a reputation as a top notch fighter bomber, and ultimately created a new class of aircraft, the Wild Weasel. This later designation was for aircraft used to hunt out radars and SAM missile sites. It was a dangerous role, but one the F-105 was a capable aircraft in. Replaced by the F4 Phantom in all its roles.
