I have been wondering for ages if there are some BOINC projects that get you more
points than others. I think I may have some sort of answer, now there are assumptions in all this:
- Assume all projects have about the same average computational power per machine
- Assume all projects are somewhat accessible to all
- Assume the users on the projects are averaging about the same amount of compute time
- Assume that user numbers for projects are equally inaccurate
- Assume that the calculation and summation of project points is somewhat timely, or equally untimely
That said, the table below, scarfed with many thanks from the Boinc Stats
web site home page, and then manipulated to divide the number points by number of users in each project. Two
numbers can be calculated, todays average for all users over the life of the project, and todays average over the number of users
on todays increment to the total points. The listing shows that for each user, the Proteins@Home project does about
3.5 times the points that the Seti@Home project.
So choose you projects with care if you are interested in rushing up the tables.
