Pompey : Now
Back

Portsmouth as it is now!

We were there, we raced drove sedately around town and knew the ways like the backs of our hands. But 20 years and hundreds of planners and developers have reshaped the City we knew so well. Martin recently took a set of photos that show the extent to which the town has changed.

Back in the day...
Tony F. on Honda CB250RS taking tight line into Mercantile hairpin!
The Library complex.
Mercantile House and the new Student Union building
Corner of Cambridge and Hampshire Terrace, AKA Mercantile Hairpin!!
Cambridge Road, where there was formerly very little!
The spruced up Nuffield Building
Waww!! Someone's knicked 'me garage!!! The car park that was formerly known as The Nuffield Garages. The Garages bulldozed to save humanity for their slow deterioration.
Looking down St. Micheals Road, towards Anglesea Road and the old Science blocks. Also known as the Back straight, or pit entrances!!!
Is this intended to mean something? The old Registry (marriages) office is now a bar?!
Mercantile House, the heart of the moped race track.
Farewell Hectors House Student Union Building, now a car park.
Out of Garage Corner onto the oneway system, then... Oops! 2 decades outta time!
Some things stay the same, the book store is just to the left (the other right) - still.
Round the one-way system, heading for either Winnie Churchill or Hampshire Terrace: PPMCC Turn 4! The middle ground blue wall on the right is about where I ended up having crashed here.
Guildhall walk.
Guildhall Square.
Guildhall. I have a class photo that was taken on these steps (see bottom of main PPMCC page). I don't look a day older either. Liar. Liar!
Bateson Hall, Halls of Residence where many happy hours of noise creation and secretive sex occurred!
For Tony and Jane, The geog'ers building.
Boat plugging out into the harbour area passed the pubs and shops in Old Portsmouth.
Boats and ships of all sizes. The Gosport ferry passes a Royal Navy Auxiliary.
